Dr. Kirschenbaum: The Prolific Surgeon.

Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum is an orthopedic surgeon, who specializes in hip and knee replacement. He is chairman of orthopaedics at the BronxCare Health System. He has dedicated his life to correcting congenital and non-congenital bone, joint, and ligament problems. And through relentless effort in his practice, thousands of patients have been given a new lease of life.

Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum’s influence reaches beyond the medical field. His insatiable desire for learning and passion for innovation have seen him get involved in many other companies. He was involved in the creation of Prodigy a company that provided subscribers with networked services; Gnu Image, a company that produces image editing softwares; and as a consultant for Stryker corporation where he gave advice on marketing, data storage, and implant design.

In the mid-1990s, Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum was Executive Director of Orthopedics at BoneHone (now known as Medscape). Medscape is a website that provides medical information for physicians and health professionals. He stayed at Medscape from 2004 to 2008 Where he served as editor and writer for their subsidiary WebMD.

He also served as chief of adult reconstructive surgery and director of orthopaedic resource management for the Kaiser Consortium from 1991 to 1995. During his time there, he won the Vohs Award for Quality for his innovations in allocating resources and joint replacement programs. He worked as a private practitioner from 2000 until 2008 and performed over 500 surgeries every year.

Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum graduated magna cum laude from Brown University in 1979 with a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience. He undertook further study at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in the Bronx. and completed his residency at Montefiore Medical Center between 1986 and 1990

He studied Management in Healthcare Delivery at Harvard Business School. In 2011 and 2012, he took a course over Value Measurement in Healthcare in 2018.

Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Orthopedic Research Society and the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Born in Michigan on January 8, 1958, Betsy Prince was raised by parents who devoted their lives to philanthropic giving. Her dad, Edgar Prince, owned The Prince Corporations and her parents founded The Prince Foundation. When Betsy was a student at Calvin College she became interested in politics. After graduation she married her husband Dick DeVos, who shared her interests. Together they have supported improving the education for low income families both financially and through their hard work.
