The world’s major problems have been solved through mathematical calculations. In America, one great mathematician in existence is Michael Lacey who has made a lot of contribution in the mathematical field.
Michael Lacey is an American Mathematician who was born in 1959. He has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois. For his thesis, he cracked the problem of the law of iterated logarithm in empirical characteristic functions.
He has also made great contributions in different fields of mathematics such as probability, ergodic theory. Michael has laid more emphasis in the field of harmonic analysis.
He has held postdoctoral positions at the University of North Carolina (UNC) and Louisiana State University. At the UNC, together with his colleague Walter Philipp they demonstrated the central limit theorem.
The central theorem limit is a probability theory which establishes that if independent variables are added, the sum of the variables tends to form a normal distribution even though the original variables are not typically distributed. Mr. Lacey has also held a position at the University of Indiana between 1989 and 1996. While working at the University, he was awarded the National Science Foundation in Postdoctoral Fellowship. During his fellowship, he studied bilinear Hilbert transform.
This transform had been developed by Alberto Calderon but was solved in 1996 by Lacey and Christoph Thiele for which the duo won the Salem Prize. Hilbert transform is an important concept in finding the function of an actual variable.
Lacey joined Georgia Institute of Technology in 1996 as a Professor of Mathematics. Since then, he has been solved many mathematical problems.
In 2004, he was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship. Eight years later, Lacey received the prestigious American Mathematical Society Fellowship. He has published many books on mathematical solutions
